I’ve been itching to do some railfanning so I made my way to Orleans, Massachusetts but the only railroad line that ran through the town has been abandoned for 53 years. But trains on a smaller scale are alive and well at the Nauset Model Railroad Club in Orleans. The club is located in the lower level behind the Hilltop Plaza off of Route 6A. The club has multiple layouts from N to G Scale. I wanted to check out the N scale layout since I’m in the process of building mine. The gentleman working on the N scale layout was very friendly and knowledgeable. The club had an awesome HO scale city scene. I’ve also wanted to check out their O Scale Model of Pawtucket-Central Falls, RI train station. Back in January 2017, I was able to see this station first hand from the outside. Sadly the station is abandoned. – Read more about the station
On my way home I was passing the Buzzards Bay Depot when I spotted The Train to Christmas Town pulling in for its first trip of the evening. This is a 70-minute train ride to Christmas Town based on the children book by Peggy Ellis. I was pretty excited to see the two recently acquired F9s locomotives in the New Haven paint scheme acting as bookends on the set of passenger coaches. I’ve seen a ton of photos on the various Facebook groups of the pair hoping to get them at someday. I didn’t think today would be the day so while everyone was boarding I was able to get photographs of locomotives 2011 and 2026.
Overall a great Saturday seeing everything at Nauset Model Railroad Club and being able to catch the F9s in action on the Cape Main. I hope to one day live close to a model railroad club so I can be a member.
